Oh Yum: Chia Seed Drinks!

Ok, so we all know that chia seeds are good for you, they pack omega-3 fatty acids, are loaded up with fiber, and bring a fair amount of iron and calcium to the party. But to really have fun with them, try this little trick next time you create your next beverage. Be it tea, juice, smoothies, or cocktails (why not??), stir in some gelled chia seeds. They're filling (which helps during the afternoon snack cravings), they absorb the flavor of what's around them, and well, genuinely, they're just fun.
To Gel Your Chia Seeds:
- Add 3 tablespoons of chia seeds to 1 cup of water.
- Chill for several hours. (I'd say 4-6 hours will get you perfectly gelled chia)
To Make your beverage of choice:
Combine your chia gel and your beverage in a 1 to 1 ratio. Stir. Enjoy! If you want your chia to really absorb the flavor of your drink, let it chill in the fridge for an additional 30 minutes after combining. The longer it chills the more flavor it takes on.
