Self Care 5: Find your happy place.

Here's the happy part of self care: making a list of all the things you could do to take better care of yourself. Then the best part is giving yourself permission to enjoy one or all of those activities.

Here are a few activities I came up with off the top of my head. Feel free to add these to your list.

massage

manicure

pedicure

physical activities

  • walking

  • running

  • yoga

  • pilates

  • exercise classes

  • sports, such as tennis, golf, bowling

  • swimming

meditation

take a class you've always wanted to take

music (listen to or learn to play an instrument)

movie

reading

art or craft activities

writing

journaling

Summary

As I've stressed throughout this series, making time for self care is important to your physical and emotional well-being. Yes, you can take mini-breaks to catch your breath and to rev your engine.  That will give you a boost, but to gain the full benefit, stretch your schedule to make true room for self care. By that I mean don't just give lip service to taking care.

Truly free up some time to relax and actually enjoy and benefit from the activity you choose. When possible, include family members to encourage them to share their support.
